B-4 203mm Howitzer
Equivalent to an 8-inch (203mm) heavy cruiser gun, this weapon weighs approximately 18 tons. It utilized concrete-piercing shells specifically designed to demolish reinforced concrete fortifications. With a single shot capable of devastating half a football field, the shells for this "monster gun" weighed between 100kg and 136kg. The destructive power was so immense that a direct hit on a 70-ton Tiger II (King Tiger) would disintegrate its armor and send the turret flying several meters away.
German forces held this weapon in absolute terror, dubbing it "Stalin's Sledgehammer." Although German troops attempted to calculate the time between the sound of the B-4 firing and the point of impact to retreat in advance, escape was virtually impossible; while the direct hit radius was 50–70m, the effective shrapnel dispersion reached 300–400m. It is a terrifying beast capable of wiping out 3 to 4 clustered infantry squads or turning a Panther or Tiger tank into a pile of scrap metal with just one shell.
However, its accuracy is a drawback. With a high scatter radius of 25m, hitting a precise coordinate is difficult, often resulting in only about 15% splash damage within 10m of the target. There are frequent cases where a shell aimed at a tank lands in a completely different spot. Nevertheless, because it offers the chance to turn the tide of a losing battle in a single strike, it is often evaluated that the ML-20 provides efficiency, while the B-4 provides effectiveness.
